VINNY'S PROMISE
Accessibility Statement
Effective Date: April 30, 2026 | Last Updated: April 30, 2026
Vinny's Promise is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to everyone, including individuals with disabilities. We believe that every person who visits our site — whether a donor, a volunteer, a family seeking support, or a community member — deserves a full and equal digital experience. Accessibility is not an afterthought for us; it is a reflection of our core value of dignity and our belief that no one should be excluded.
This Accessibility Statement describes the standards we follow, the steps we have taken to make our site accessible, known limitations, and how you can contact us if you encounter any barriers.
1. Conformance Status
Vinny's Promise aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities. Conformance with these guidelines helps make the web more accessible to users who are blind or have low vision, deaf or hard of hearing, have limited mobility, have cognitive disabilities, or use assistive technologies such as screen readers, voice recognition software, or alternative input devices.
Our current conformance status is: Partially Conformant. This means that some content does not yet fully meet the WCAG 2.1 Level AA standard. We are actively working to address all known gaps and improve accessibility across our entire site on an ongoing basis.
2. Accessibility Features of This Website
We have taken the following measures to improve accessibility on our website:
Visual Design
All text meets a minimum color contrast ratio of 4.5:1 against its background, in accordance
with WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards.
Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
The site does not rely on color alone to convey information.
No content flashes more than three times per second, reducing risk for users with
photosensitive epilepsy.
Navigation and Structure
All pages include a descriptive, unique page title.
Headings are used in a logical, hierarchical order (H1, H2, H3) to help users navigate content
with screen readers.
All navigation menus are keyboard-accessible using the Tab and Enter keys.
A visible focus indicator is present when navigating by keyboard.
Links include descriptive text so that their purpose is clear out of context.
Images and Media
All meaningful images include descriptive alternative (alt) text.
Decorative images are marked with empty alt attributes so they are ignored by screen
readers.
Any video content includes captions or a written transcript.
Forms and Donations
All form fields include visible labels that are programmatically associated with their input
elements.
Error messages are descriptive and identify the specific field requiring correction.
Required fields are clearly identified.
The donation form is operable by keyboard without requiring a mouse.
Technology and Compatibility
The site is built with valid, semantic HTML5.
ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) landmarks and roles are used where appropriate
to improve screen reader navigation.
The site is compatible with the following assistive technologies: NVDA (Windows), JAWS
(Windows), VoiceOver (macOS and iOS), TalkBack (Android), and Dragon
NaturallySpeaking.
The site is compatible with recent versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Microsoft Edge.
3. Known Limitations
Despite our best efforts, some areas of our website may not yet fully meet accessibility standards.
Known limitations include:
Third-Party Content: Embedded content from external platforms (such as social media feeds,
payment processors, or video platforms) may not fully comply with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We
are working with our third-party providers to address these gaps.
Legacy Documents: Older PDF documents linked from this site may not be fully accessible.
We are working to remediate or replace these documents with accessible versions.
Maps and Interactive Elements: Any embedded maps or interactive media may have limited
keyboard accessibility. We provide text-based alternatives wherever possible.
We are continuously auditing our site and addressing these issues. If you encounter a specific
barrier not listed here, please let us know using the contact information below.
4. Assistive Technology Recommendations
For the best experience using assistive technologies, we recommend the following pairings:
Screen Reader on Windows: NVDA or JAWS with Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox
Screen Reader on macOS: VoiceOver with Safari
Screen Reader on iOS: VoiceOver with Safari
Screen Reader on Android: TalkBack with Google Chrome
Voice Control on Windows: Dragon NaturallySpeaking with any modern browser
Voice Control on macOS/iOS: Voice Control (built-in) with Safari or Chrome
5. Feedback and Accessibility Support

accessibility concerns seriously and aim to respond within 2 business days.

Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), you may also consult with a civil rights
attorney.
7. Our Assessment and Improvement Approach
Vinny's Promise assesses the accessibility of our website through the following methods:
Self-Evaluation: Our web team regularly reviews pages against the WCAG 2.1 Level AA
checklist.
Automated Testing: We use automated accessibility scanning tools to identify common
issues.
User Feedback: We incorporate accessibility feedback received from users into our
improvement roadmap.
Third-Party Audits: We plan to conduct formal accessibility audits by a qualified third-party
evaluator on an annual basis.
We are committed to making accessibility improvements a regular part of our website
maintenance and development cycle, not a one-time effort.
8. Legal Framework
This Accessibility Statement is informed by the following legal standards and frameworks:
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Title III — prohibits discrimination based on disability in
places of public accommodation, which courts have increasingly applied to websites.
Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act — requires federal agencies and organizations receiving
federal funding to make their electronic information accessible.
Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Levels A and AA — the internationally
recognized technical standard for web accessibility.
New York State Human Rights Law — prohibits disability discrimination in public
accommodations, which may include websites.
9. Updates to This Statement
This Accessibility Statement will be reviewed and updated at least annually, or whenever
significant changes are made to our website. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this document
reflects the most recent revision. We are committed to ongoing improvement and will update this
statement to accurately reflect the current state of accessibility on our site.
Vinny's Promise is committed to the dignity and inclusion of every person who visits our site. If there is
anything we can do to make your experience better, please do not hesitate to reach out.
